You are an avid lover of video games. You are the first one at the store whenever you hear there will be a new release. It doesn’t matter to you what the platform is where it will be used. Your overall goal is to make sure you get to play it to your heart’s content and look at the design of this game. You know you want to design video games and are curious about programming. What kind of programming do you have to know to design video games?

Programming for Video Game Design
Have you heard of the most popular language used in gaming?* C++ sound familiar? You must know this programming language that has been around for a long time. If you haven’t heard of it, now is the time to go and get books from the library and read up as much as possible.

For the beginner, you should take a course in DarkBasic*. This is recommended for the programming basic. If you are going down this journey of programming video games, you may as well do it right from the start and invest in yourself and your chosen craft.

Microsoft is even in on this action with Microsoft Visual Basic*. It teaches you about programming for Windows operating systems. Let’s face it, Windows operating systems aren’t going anywhere so you may as well learn all you can about the different programming platforms.

As a person who is going into programming videos, you must have a good head on your shoulders, patience and ready to be the problem solver at your job. You may very well be the person who becomes very excited when a program is not working so you can go hard and figure out how to add a component here or there and make it work better than when they bought it.

Another step you may want to take is looking at trade magazines and see what is available for the video game programmer. You may also want to see if there is a local association. If there is can you attend the firs meeting and see if it will be a fit for you? Another option is to talk with someone in the profession. When you can have a conversation with someone in the career field, it may make all the difference in the world.  Ask this person what is happening in the field, if they recommend books for you to read or if they know of some classes that you get under your belt for attending college.
